As a mom of 4 little ones, I know firsthand the STRUGGLE that is finding summer activities to keep them entertained. That’s why I’ve rounded up 10 totally kid friendly activities to keep those littles happy whether they are playing inside by themselves ( no mess fun!) , playing outside ( and staying cool ) or if you are playing together as a family!
Summer Activities for No Mess Play ( REALLY!)
Let’s be honest, while we try to soak up as much time as we can together, there are just going to be times when the kids have got to play independently and entertain themselves. And during those times, it’s nice to have some peace of mind that they are not going to create a disaster for you to have to clean up. So here are some really fun and no mess ( and no worry!) activities that they will love and you will also love!
Magnet Blocks

A classic for exploring kids endless creativity. These magnet blocks have endless combinations and just trust me when I tell you that your kids will keep coming back to these again and again.
Bonus: They are medium sized flat pieces, so even if they leave the pieces out, you don’t have to worry about stabbing your foot on a minefield of tiny plastic pieces of hate ( we all know exactly which toys I’m talking about!)
Water and Light Pad
I swear the kids loveeee this one because it FEELS like they get to make a mess but in reality they may just splash a little water around.

This magical contraption lets kids paint with water and light. Don’t ask me to explain how it works because I ain’t gotta clue. But basically the magical paint pen knows which color they selected and then uses water and light to put it on the paper. But the color ONLY works on the paper.
So they get the feel of putting wet paint onto paper and the satisfaction of watching the colors appear. BUT you have the peace of mind that the biggest mess that will be made is a little water on the table when they are finished.
Doodle Board

These doodle boards are a favorite! It’s so simple for the kids to use and they can draw over and over again with ZERO mess.
These are also a lifesaver on road trips because they are amazing for entertaining and playing with in the car and sooooo easy to pack and throw in a bag.
Bonus: These are soooo affordable! You can grab THREE of them for just over $10!
Summer Activities for Playing Outside ( and staying cool!)
It’s summer time, the sun is high , the days are long, and it’s only a matter of time before the kids are begging to run around outside leaving a trail of chaos behind them! But don’t worry, I got you covered for some easy outside fun too!
No Mess Chalk

Honestly even though chalk isn’t the end of the world as far as stains and messes, it’s still a little annoying when the kids come inside covered with it. And the next time they ask to draw with the chalk, you may find yourself a little hesitant. If that’s you then you NEED this no mess chalk.
It’s so simple but so smart. It’s literally just your average sidewalk chalk but in an easy to hold, no mess, plastic casing. Which means that mosssttt of the chalk actually ends up on the sidewalk!
Splash Pad

The kids will be begging to play with this all summer. It’s so simple to set up, keeps the kids cool and entertained, and you don’t have to worry about keeping leaves and dirt out of a pool.
Which means you can pull up a chair, grab a book and enjoy the sunshine for yourself while the kids splash around for hours!
Summer Activities for Playing Together
And last but most certainly not least, I’ve rounded up some super fun and special activities that you can do WITH your kids. They will love how special and unique these activities are , and you will treasure these projects and the memories for years to come.
Plant Growing Kit

This adorable little greenhouse/plant kit is a really fun and practical way to teach your kids about plants and also give them something to watch all summer. And you may even get a veggie or two out of it!
Stepping Stones

I was obsessed with these when I saw them. It’s such a practical project that you can use in any backyard or garden. The kids will absolutely love painting with all of their creativity and you will love the precious piece of art they make for your garden.
Bonus: Make sure to date them on the back when the kids finish them for extra nostalgia in a few years!
Birdhouse

These birdhouse kits are an awesome family activity that will continue to provide entertainment all summer.
The kids will love painting and designing them, and then you get to hang them in the yard and watch for all the wildlife to come all summer long.
Windchime Kit

This was my personal favorite find because there is nothing viby-er than a windchime blowing in the summer breeze. And this is one that you get to build and design with your sweet babies and then enjoy the memories and the relaxing sound of the chime for years to come.
Wooden Magnet Kit

Again, can you tell I love a practical arts and crafts project?
This magnet kit is just such a clever way to let your kids have a little fun with paint. The best part is that you can pull out a couple of magnets at a time and stretch the fun of this kit all summer long. And at the end of summer you will have a super fun and memory filled fridge of magnets ready to hang all the kids’ school art projects to come in the fall!
I hope this little roundup of some of my personal favorite kid friendly activities helps your family beat the heat and the boredom this summer! Try them out and lemme know which one was YOUR favorite!
